The DUHS IRB would like to remind study teams about notifications for re-opened studies in the iRIS system and expectations regarding renewals. All re-opened studies are approved for a period of 12 months (one year). Please note that this approval period cannot be renewed.
Key Points to Remember:
- One-Year Approval: Once a study is re-opened in iRIS, it will be approved for a period of 12 months (one year) with an expiration date being 12 months after the IRB approved the request to re-open.
- No Renewals: After the one-year period, the approval for the re-opened study will expire. Study teams must ensure that all necessary activities are completed within this timeframe.
- Continuing Review Notifications: Despite the non-renewable nature of the approval, study teams will continue to receive Continuing Review notifications from iRIS. These notifications are intended to remind teams of the upcoming expiration of their re-open study approval and to facilitate timely completion of any required activities.
We encourage all study teams to plan their research activities accordingly and to be mindful of the one-year approval period. You do not need to submit a final report to close your re-open. Please contact your IRB specialist to ask to administratively close the re-open and your IRB specialist will contact the individual who can administratively close it in iRIS.
