Just-In-Time Notifications
10/11/2011
Just-In-Time (JIT) notifications with awards from the federal government differ from ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) funding awards in their timeline requirements for IRB approval. ARRA funding came with strict 5-7 day deadlines for IRB approval, and the DUHS IRB devised an accelerated process to handle that requirement. ARRA funding is not available at present.
JIT notifications simply come with a request to provide a rough time table for IRB review. Please read your JIT notice letter carefully to see what is required. JITs still require SBR review prior to IRB review. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, JITs will be scheduled for review at the next available IRB meeting. They do not warrant review immediately (jumping to the head of the queue); instead, the investigator must communicate with the funding agency to tell them the study’s expected IRB review date.
